Serving the community as a police officer is one of the most challenging and rewarding careers available. It is a demanding profession that requires integrity, intelligence, and courage. Police officers make a difference in someone’s life every day.
The Bureau of Labor and Statistics reports that police officer jobs are expected to grow 11% from 2006 – 2016. The median salary for a police officer is $47,460 and the highest paid 10% of police officers earn over $72,450 annually. If you would like more information on the job outlook for this career, please read this excerpt from the BLS job outlook handbook.
The Kellogg Community College Police Academy is well respected throughout the state, and the caliber of our graduates who have moved out-of-state has helped make our program a destination stop for out-of-state recruiters.
During the past five years 100% of our students passed the MCOLES licensure examination. Additionally, at least 73% of those graduates are now employed as police officers (it may be higher, but we have no way of tracking out-of-state employment unless a graduate contacts us).
The strength of our program is due to the integrity and work ethic of our students and to an incredibly talented cadre of instructors.
For police officer eligibility requirements please read the Employment Standards for Michigan Law Enforcement Officers.
