Social Science Department
KCC’s Social Science Department offers instruction in a broad range of subject areas which are viewed as essential to a solid general education. Employers are seeking employees who can demonstrate skills in working with others, problem solve, make sound decisions, and adapt to change. All of these abilities are considered crucial in the ever-changing workplace of today.

It is quite likely that the vast majority of people entering the workplace at this time will change their careers 5 to 10 times in their worklife. The ability to adapt in this way requires skills which are the focus of the social sciences. Our rapidly changing economy in light of the global perspective, industry relocations, an emphasis on participatory management, and other social and political forces, all contribute to the need for today’s and future workers being able to think, analyze and pursue knowledge they need to help themselves and their employers thrive. We are committed to helping people acquire these skills. We study:
  • Psychology – to help us understand ourselves, those around us and our relationships with them.
  • Sociology – to understand how societies have developed and how society influences us.
  • Anthropology – to understand how cultures have made meaning of human existence over time.
  • Political Science – to understand the role of leadership and how leaders can help promote economic and social growth.
  • History – to understand what came before us so that we may take advantage of successes and mistakes along the course of human experience.
  • Philosophy – to understand the ideas of the great thinkers past and present.
  • Ethics – to understand the guiding principles which can enrich our personal and professional lives.
  • Human Services – to understand the needs of persons on their journey through life so that we may assist them through transitions and in overcoming obstacles.
